Estonia to host the 10th Anniversary European Minerals Day Launch Event!

On 21 & 22 September 2017, the 2017 European Minerals Days will be officially inaugurated under the Estonian EU Presidency at the Nordkalk Kurevere dolomite operations and the Kunda Nordic Tsement operations in Estonia.

The Launch events will tell the story of how the minerals industry contributes to sustainable regions and the well-being of the local communities while making the link to the EU 2020 policy agenda. We are looking forward to welcoming as our guest speakers: Messrs Peter Handley (DG GROW, European Commission), Micheal O’Briain (DG ENVI, European Commission),  Ando Leppiman and Kalev Kallemets (Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia), Marko Pomerants (Member of Parliament and previous Environment Minister of Estonia), Neeme Suur (Governor, Lääne County),  Prof. Alar Rosentau (University of Tartu), Kaido Veski (Mayor of Kunda), and Ms Liis Keerberg (Birdlife International).

The programme will allow for an insightful visit of the limestone quarry with the opportunity to witness a blasting and be introduced to the local orchids biodiversity project in Kurevere on the 21st September. The following day, the official programme foresees a visit of Kunda Tsement’s cement production plant, Kunda port and quarry site, where the visitors will be introduced to the local birds protection programme.
