Both quarries belonging to Górażdze Cement joined actively this year's edition of European Minerals Day. Within the framework of this action, two events were organised: a scientific seminar devoted to the promotion of biodiversity at the area of raw materials quarries, as well as the Open Door Day at Marl Folwark Quarry, an open air meeting for the local community of the neighbouring villages.
The scientific conference was organized together with the scientists from the Nature Department at the Opole University who since 2005 are involved in “The program of biodiversity conservation of the mining area of Górażdże Cement S.A”. There were 30 scientists-naturalists from several Polish universities who participated in this seminar as well as representatives of local authorities responsible for nature conservation and Gorazdze, employees responsible for restoration and renaturation process.
More than 1500 people attended the events, mainly the inhabitants of the five villages located in the neighbourhood of the marl quarry Folwark as well as the employees with their families who participated in the Open Day. People visiting the quarry could learn about the excavation process of marl for cement production and what is the most important, to know the safety measures undertaken by the company in the field of blasting and minimizing its impact on the environment.
