Minerals Day 2011 – IMI Fabi

May 18th, 2011-The third edition of the Minerals Day has just ended up with great success. During these days IMI Fabi planned four distinct events devoted to the communication with the stakeholders and also had the opportunity to highlight the importance of the mining sector in the economic and employment field emphasizing at the same time the corporate social responsibility.

The project conceived by IMI Fabi for Sa Matta Mine - with the help of two expert naturalists - foresaw the creation of a nature trail complete with panels describing the Mediterranean scrub, a botanical station for biodiversity observation on the lake and a panoramic point on mining activities.

At the mine of Brusada - Ponticelli was instead completed the nature trail dedicated to the miners with the laying of the last four panels. During the events, IMI Fabi was also able to show the results regarding the reproduction of the four rare species identified in summer of 2009, three of which were sown after their germination in the nursery set for biodiversity preservation located near the mine

On May 13, 2011, IMI Fabi therefore planned educational workshops aimed at the schools of: Caspoggio, Torre Santa Maria (SO) and Orani (NU). More than 150 pupils – besides teachers - have been able to approach mining activities, see the equipment used in the mining process and better understand the use that is made of talc in everyday life. The children were also introduced to the knowledge of biodiversity through leisure activities and more specifically educational laboratories.

On May 14, 2011, the mines of Brusada Ponticelli and Sa Matta were opened to the public - about 280 recorded attendants - in order to explain the different stages of talc processing, its use and display equipment; also guests have been conducted along the two nature trails that the company really wanted to spread a growing awareness within the protection of biodiversity. .

The beautiful spring weather of these two days contributed to the success of the event, the visitors were able to restore themselves after the excursions with cool drinks and snacks and few gadgets were handled out in memory of the wonderful day spent together exploring biodiversity preservation and mining activities.
