European Launch Event under the Luxembourg EU Presidency
The 2015 European Minerals Day was officially launched on 25 September 2015 at the Cimalux cement operations in Rumelange, on the Luxembourg/French border. It took place under the Luxembourg EU Presidency in attendance of European Commission Director General for the Environment, Mr Daniel Calleja Crespo, Luxembourg Minister for the Interior, Mr Dan Kersch, and Member of European Parliament and President of the Green Group, Mr Claude Turmes.
Following up on the European Minerals Day, and to highlight the essential role of mineral raw materials to the EU 2020 agenda, an exhibition is foreseen in the European Parliament, showing the mineral life cycle from extraction, processing, product applications, to recycling, alongside a roundtable debate with the key stakeholders to explore the road forward for Europe and the role of the minerals sectors for a sustainable and resource efficient economy.
